One of the hottest new restaurants in Buffalo is the Beacon Grille. It opened up in the popular Allentown district. I was lucky enough to be able to get a reservation on New Years Eve. It was crowded, but the food was outstanding and the service phenomenal.
Restaurant Closures 2024
December was a bad month here at Jim's Dining guides, as several of my favorite restaurants closed permanently. Here are the details.
El Punto Mexican Cantina
It used to be hard to find a restaurant in Buffalo with authentic Mexican food. No more, as there is a new restaurant in North Tonawanda that serves great, traditional Mexican cuisine: El Punto Mexican Cantina.
Grover’s Bar & Grill
Some friends of mine heard that the best burgers in Buffalo, NY were at Grover's Bar & Grill in East Amherst. They went there and loved the burgers so much that as soon as they had the chance, my friends took me to Grover's.
One Meal at Crisfield Seafood
I have walked by Crisfield Seafood in Silver Spring, Maryland many times and have always wanted to try it. When I heard that after 80 years it was closing, I decided I had to have one meal there. It took a couple of attempts, but I finally had that meal.
Tonic At Quigley’s
I was in Foggy Bottom meeting some friends to tour a museum. Looking for a place to eat afterwords, we found a a restaurant nearby that I had long wanted to try, a local pub called Tonic At Quigley's. The pub, it turns out, not only has great food but also a storied history going back over 100 years.
Cranes Spanish Kaiseki
I was in DC for a graduation ceremony, and needed to eat dinner afterwards. A quick search found an interesting looking place that serves Spanish and Japanese tapas. Little did I realize that Cranes Spanish Kaiseki once had a Michelin star. I was in for an incredible meal.
The Manor at Silo Falls
I was in Olney, Maryland to see a play. Needing to eat dinner beforehand, I was looking for restaurants. One place stood out in my search results: The Manor at Silo Falls, an upscale restaurant in an historic mansion in nearby Brookeville. Enjoying the fantastic scenery and loving the food, I had a great meal.
The Pink Poodle
I was in King George Virginia, attending a festival on a warm fall day. Afterwards, I was in the mood for some local ice cream. There was such a place in nearby Colonial Beach, Virginia, an historic beach town situated on the Potomac River. Located near the boardwalk area, covered with bright colors, The Pink Poodle can't be missed.
Jim’s South Street
When I wrote my first article about cheesesteaks in Philadelphia, I received several recommendations about other places to visit. Last year, I attempted to go to all of them. I came close, but Jim's Steaks on South Street was closed due to a fire. Jim's has now reopened and I am happy to report that they have some of the best cheesesteaks in Philly.
