I was recently in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. There was was a public market a short walk from my hotel. I have been to public markets before, but nothing like this. Huge, historic, and filled with a plethora of grocers and eateries, Reading Terminal Market is the place to shop and dine in Philadelphia.
Public markets are common in Europe, but are rarer in the United States. But many older cities have them. Washington DC has Eastern Market. Buffalo has the Broadway Market. And Baltimore has Lexington Market. For awhile now, I have been meaning to visit the Lexington Market. When it recently reopened in a brand new building, I decided the time was now.
On a recent trip, I had a stopover in London. Looking for a place to eat, I settled on Borough Market. At the market I found over a dozen places serving food, all looking fantastic.
