Elephant & Castle DC

On March 13, 2021 By jimsdiningguidesIn Dining, Food, Washington DC1 Comment

I was in the mood for some British pub food. After some searching I found an authentic looking one right in the heart of DC: Elephant & Castle. So that is where I went. I am glad I did.

Half-Smoke

On January 2, 2021February 21, 2026 By jimsdiningguidesIn Dining, Food, Washington DC3 Comments

I recently discovered a great casual restaurant in Washington DC that not only has managed to survive the pandemic, but is expanding to new locations. While new to me, Half-Smoke has been in the Shaw neighborhood of DC since 2016. Not only do they have a great selection of meats, but great cocktails and appetizers as well.

There's a relatively new ice cream place in the Shaw area of Washington DC that makes ice cream on the spot using liquid Nitrogen: Nicecream. It does not get fresher than this!

CHIKO is a small DC area chain that serves a fusion of Chinese and Korean cuisine. It's a unique flavor blend and the quality of the food is amazing. CHIKO has quickly become one of my favorite restaurants.

Ben's Chili Bowl is the most iconic of all restaurants in Washington DC. If you have not been there, you have not eaten in DC. It has been a fixture on U Street since the 1950s.

I love ice cream and will stop to have some any time of the year. Here are some of my favorite ice cream parlors in the Washington DC area.

Queen’s English

A great new Asian tapas place with a strong sense of community. Located in Columbia Heights, Queen's English has Hong Kong food at its finest.

Tiki Taco

Blending Hawaian food with Mexican is not the most obvious cuisine fusion, but a new restaurant in Dupont Circle serving up tacos Hawaiian style shows that the combination can be dynamite.
